Yet another brushless selfie drone will be introduced soon. This is the SIMTOO Moment selfie drone: https://www.banggood.com/SIMTOO-MOMENT-Airselfie-HOSHI-007PRO-WiFi-FPV-with-4K-HD-Gimbal-Camera-GPS-Folding-Arms-Selfie-Drone-p-1184218.html This model presents a large propguard and can folded in two ideal for transportation. A total of 400g is announced for the machine so close to be twice more heavier than the Zerotech dobby or the Sunlytech ALPHAcam 4K. For the features, the drone is able to shoot videos in 4K@25fps and 1080p@60. EIS is only mentionned for the Visual tracking mode.. Seems to be not active for basic videos shooting actually. Flight times expected are about 15min and the machine can be proposed with a second spare battery. The HD FPV link is 2.4G WiFi based up to 100m. The pitch of the camera can be ajusted in realtime. As advanced flight modes, we have a visual tracking with EOS and SLAM mode…. The SLAM mode shound in theory generate a (indoors) map while the machine be in discovery mode… SLAM is known to be a very complex task in robotics. INTRODUCTION The Boldclash B-05 is announced to be the lightest brushless FPV quadcopter thanks to a F3 tennyfish board, super light 0703 motors and 4-in-1 4A BLheli_S/Dshot 600 board. 32g with the battery is advertised!!! impressive, just slightly more heavier than a brushed TinyWhoops. For the FPV part, a 600TVL CMOS 48CH 25mW AIO FPV camera is installed. This machine is a direct competitor if the Eachine DustX58. Let’s check this new product. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Boldclash B-05 + 1 x 350mAh 1S LiPo with microLOSI connector + 1 x USB charging cable + 8 x Spare props (4 CW, 4 CCW) + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x Instruction manual (English) OVERVIEW The Boldclash B-05 is 66mm brushless racer with a builtin carbon prop guard. It employs an X-design with a lower carbon frame. The FPV AIO module is jailed into a super thin plastic canopy structure. As you can see, the DustX58 is more compact, i.e. 58mm vs the 66mm of the B-05. In a first glance, we can see that the prop guard is much more thinner versus the Eachine version. 66mm machine. It’s confirmed, the thickness is only 0.5mm only !!!! versus 1mm for the Eachine. In practice this propguard looks super flexible… and the durability is an open question in a first glance. But in practice…. the guard resisted to all crashed I had…. The main lower carbon plate is 1.30mm so much more solid that the prop guard look like. -FRONT VIEW The look is pretty cool especially with the top canopy element. The props are the same than for the Eachine dustX58 and KingKong Tiny 7. Installed front a super tiny button to bind the FrSky D8 builtin receiver. With the antenna mod -SIDE VIEW The right side welcomes the microUSB port of the teenyfish F3 board. No problem to insert the USB cable. -REAR VIEW The microLOSI connector. -UPPER VIEW -BOTTOM VIEW The 4-in-1 4A ESC board. With the rubber band to attach the battery. -WEIGHT 22.3g standalone !!!! it’s close to 3g more lighter. With the original battery 350mAh LiPo we reach 33.4g so 1.4g more heavier than the advertised 32g. with a nanotech 500mAH LiPo Motors The same 0703 brushless motoro but only spinning @15000Kv versus the 20000Kv the dustX58. No real chance to run them in 2S configuration. In anycase the the ESC board won’t support 2S voltage. The shaft diameter is 1.5mm. Notice the props are identical to the King Kong Tiny 7. In practice, there are known to introduce some Jello in the FPV link. Some other 30mm alternative can be prefered. For example the Eachine Revanger 55/Aurora 68 quadriblade props can be installed. Another alternative are the triblade husbsan props trimmed to 30mm. LiPo A 350mAh model announced to be 25C…. After the end of each flight, the battery is pretty hot. Probably a model with 50C should be prefered. Camera module The 600TVL CMOS 1/4″ camera coupled with a 25mW 48CH 5.8G VTX. The Field of View is fixed to 120 degrees so ideal for both indoors and outdoors applications. In the read side, two buttons can be found. The front one if shortly pressed flip upside down the video signal. If long pressed you can cycle between NTSC and PAL systems. The rear button set the Vfreq and the Vband if shortly pressed or long pressed respectively. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS, BINDING, CONFIGURATION AND DEMO FLIGHT First good news, the TeenyFish F3 board is flashed with the last Betaflight 3.1.7. As for all F3fish board, you need first to plug the battery before to connect the FC with your USB cable in order to have working betaflight connexion. The FrSky D8 received is connected via Serial SBUS connexion. Good news, Dshot 600 is selected by default. No specific PIDs settings have been optimized for the B-05. Only the “angle” 6-axis stabilized flight mode is preconfigured. Since there is no builtin buzzer… you can play with the buzzer strenght in BLheli configurator to increase to buzz sound emitted after the period of inactivity. An indirect way to locate your lost machine. As for the DustX58, the punch out of this machine are not impressive just a bit better what you can have with good brushed motors. Clearly the 0703 brushless motors are not yet the right answer for such light machines. Forget powerloops with this machine but it’s ok for basic flips and rolls in acro. Compared to the DustX58, the machine offers less bounce back/oscillations with the default Betaflight settings. So we can hope to have even better results witl some little optimization. That’s a good point. Unfortunatly, as expected with these props, some little jello can be noticed in the FPV signal. Probably the fist mod to do is to install better 30mm props. Compared to the DustX58, flight time are also much better. We have a solid 4min while with the dustX58, only 2min30 can be obtained with the 450mAh. With the Nanotech 500mah, 5min-5min30 can be obtained. Thats great. The machine is fast and very fun to fly in tiny spaces. Of course in strong wind conditions, the machine is deeply impacted. The FPV signal is good, in the average with this AIO module. For indoors flights, you can have super precize controls … it’s great. The FPV signal can cross several walls without difficulity so no problem to fly around all the house. CONCLUSIONS The devil is in the detail… and if the DustX58 and the B-05 are very close in term of electronic caracterics thanks to a lighter solution, the boldclash model offers much better flight time around 4min. This machine is not a super power acro machine, no miracle actually with 0703 brushless motors.. But it’s the B-05 is great indoors/outdoors machine super nible in tiny spaces. Better/lighter props and a better battery can boost even more performances. PROS + 33.4g brushless FPV racer !!! + Indoors/outdoors machine + F3 Teenyfish board + FrSky D8 w/telemetry + Betaflight 3.1.7 + 4min of flight time + BLheli_S/Dshot 600 ESC CONS – Bit of jello in FPV signal – Not super powerfull for acro figures – No buzzer This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Boldclash in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thank them for this attitude. You can find it actually for 100USD at http://www.boldclash.com/boldclash-bwhoop-b05-v1-fpv-drone-p9.html Cet article TEST: Boldclash B-05, a 33.4g bruslhess FPV racer !!! est apparu en premier sur Drone-Maniac !!!!!!!. INTRODUCTION With the popular success of selfie drones with foldable arms, a lot of toygrade quadcopter entered into the market. Here is the variant, i.e. the Eachine E53, a rebranding of the i-Drone i5 (from Yi-Zhan probably). With this brushed quad we have a basic WiFi link via the 0.3mpx camera module. The machine comes either in pure BNF version and mist be controled via a smartphone/tablet or in RTF with an extra controller. Let’s discover this bundle. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Eachine E53 (with a 1S 120mAh LiPo directly soldered) + 1 x USB charging cable + 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x Instruction manual (English) OVERVIEW The quadcopter is build with a hard plastic much more breakable, probably a basic or recycled plastic. Luckely the general weight is light and this risk to crack arms is relatively low. The main originality is the process how to fold the arms, vertically. It’s not a direct drive but a geared one in order to boost powerlift and/or to use smaller motors. -FRONT VIEW The central part hosts the camera module on top. As you can already see, the Field of View will be limited by the pinhole lens thread. Don’t expect more than 60-70 degrees ….. Definitively, no brand will understand how important to have a FoV about 120 degrees. When unfolded -SIDE VIEW Each arms must be clipsed with this central white plastic element in order to secure arm deployment. The WiFi module can be guessed latterally. -REAR VIEW -UPPER VIEW A small powerswitch can be found rear the WiFi module. brief press to turn on the machine. Keep it press more than 2s to turn off. -BOTTOM VIEW The battery fits almost all the battery tray. No real possbility to install a larger model The 2.4G antenna of the RFchip is installed horizontally parallel to the board… Not a good choice for horizontal range. You should install it more vertically. Since the antenna is soldered on the bottom side, the antenna should be more point the down direction. -WEIGHT 67.6g in total… For a gear brushed machine is not so heavy. Expected flight time should be not so bad. Motors and props A gear system with nylon pinion and main Wheel. Unfortunatly no bushing or bearing are installed. A direct friction of the metal shaft with the plastic….. Versus time, fraction will damage/stress motors. Please check/inspect regulary this meshing especially after a crash Brushed motors are small …. strange size a 6.5mm diameter not very common. Super long props to boost thrust… but in the other hand will stress a lot motors. LiPo A 350mAh LiPo one cell model with a discharge rate announced to be 25C. In practice flight time are about 6-7min before LVC. Camera module A super narrow FOV with this tiny M6 lens thread format. The associated camera sensor offers very poor performances. No miracle in term of color rendition and light sensitivity with this 0.3mpx sensor…. Definitively should be upgraded for a 720mpx model…. No possibility to ajust the lens orientation. The lens moves but return in the horizontal direction. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT The general Appz is common with a lot of i-Drone models. You will have to slide right to select the “i5” model. The interface is classic for a WiFi drone with camera/video trigger buttons, IMU flight mode, speed mode, headless, one key return, 360 degrees flips and the new trajector planner recently introduced for most WiFi toyquadcopter. The settings button allows you to recalibrate the machine when installed on a flat surface. When pressing on the “OFF” button, the virtual sticks appear. On really annoying behaviour can be noticed especially for the left stick. If you press it above the upp half-circle, no response from the appz….. You will need to touch it in the lower part in order to go above… Really annoying. When you press on the take off, the machine raises fast to 1m high. In indoors or zero-free conditions, the machine is super stable. First remark… so rates of the machine are super super slow… in order to have the most stable hovering as possible. If it’s a good choice to shoot basic videos, if you fly in presence of trees or obstacles… it can be a big drame since there are a lot of inertia in the commands. Even at 100% mode, it’s still especially the yaw control super slow :(…. The FPV link offers a basic VGA format with a max framerate about 15fps even at super close range. Versus distance, the frame rate will drop quick…. With such narrow FOV, it’s almost impossible to fly FPV like this. The WiFi link is more here to check the scene you are currently pointing. In term of flight time… a good 6-7min can be obtained. CONCLUSIONS On more basic WiFi toyquadcopter…. and there are already a lot of similar models. Thie Eachine E53 don”t bring something new or more interesting. A basic brushed geared flyer with a basic WiFi link to shoot VGA videos at low frame rate. Ok arms are foldable…. it’s a good point and rates are super super smooth to stabilize the machine the much it can be. But be aware to check regulary each gear system to avoid any extra friction. PROS + Stable machine for shooting very basic videos + Altitude hold + Foldable arms + Good flight time (~6-7min) + Good appz + Trajectory design feature CONS – Left virtual stick not responsive when touched on the upper part – Super slow yaw rates – No selfie mode control – No ballbearings/oil bushing for motor’s shaft – Limited VGA FPV link with max 15fps – Narrow Field of View This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thank them for this attitude. You can find it actually for 38USD at https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-E53-WiFi-FPV-Selfie-Drone-with-0_3MP-Camera-Foldable-Arms-Altitude-Hold-RC-Quadcopter-p-1174751.html Cet article TEST: Eachine E53 est apparu en premier sur Drone-Maniac !!!!!!!. Remember my last review of the excellent Boldclash F-08 ? . Here is more or less the same module from Turbowing: https://www.banggood.com/Turbowing-DVR-CYCLOPS-3-DVR-VTX-CAM-AIO-700TVL-5_8G-48CH-0mW25mW200mW-FPV-AV-Transmitter-Camera-p-1181449.html You will have the same DVR recording files in 720x480p resolution @30fps but this module seems smaller in dimensions and can output up to 200mW. In the other hand, the total weight is 7.2g so 1.6g more heavier than the F-08. This new module targets more compact micro FPB brushless machines. The camera part is based on a 700TVL 1/3″ sensor so should have better light sensitivity. The FOV around 110deges. 48CH channels for the VTX part. INTRODUCTION The Cheerson CX-0F represents the last revision of their super popular CX-10 lunched three years ago. After the introduction of a WiFi module, a barometer, the last integration is a visual positionning camera improving the general altitude stabilization. More the smartphone application is also improved with new fun modes. Let’s discover the CX-0F. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Cheerson CX-0F (with a 1S 150mAh LiPo directly soldered) + 1 x Transmitter (with a 120mAh builtin app) + 1 x USB charging cable + 1 x USB to microUSB cable + 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x Instruction manual (English) OVERVIEW In hands, the CX-0F is clearly more heavier than the first edition. No miracle with FPV WiFi module, a barometer and the new Visual positionning system. All new ingredients are either installed bottom (for the Visual positionning) or on top (for the WiFi). Anyway, the CX-0F is still a 50mm machine. For android, please download and install the CX-0F application (with a 0 not a O) available in google play. -FRONT VIEW A bicolor design scheme is used. Good news at least front and rear props got different colors. A good help to keep the machine orientation. The upper canopy part is attached via 4 screws and the plastic pads of each motor pods. -SIDE VIEW The 2.4G antenna of the WiFi module is visible and installed outside the machine Red ligts can be found on rear arms while more blue on front. They are blinking fast when voltrage drop below 3.3V. -REAR VIEW -UPPER VIEW -BOTTOM VIEW The main novolty introduced with ths model. A super tiny camera in M3 format able to estimate more or less the distance to the ground. Each landing pods receive a foam rubber pad to amortize landings. -WEIGHT The same props than we can find in for any nanos. Now the problem of their robustness can be raised in the sens that with the extra weight added by the new electronic elements, they become in practice much more fragile. Y 23.8g when lightest nano’s were below 15g ….!!!! close to 10g more. It’s a lot. Motors To boost the payload capacity, some 6mmx15mm coreless motors are installed instead of 6mx12mm coreless brushed motors. Camera module A super narrow lens limiting the Field oF View to something around 60 degrees The lens thread is in M6 format and as far I know there is no compatible lens with a wider FOV. Photos are taken in VGA resolution with poor precision and light sensitifity. Videos are also taken in VGA format with a poor 16fps maximum (if the WiFi connexion doesn’t limit even more the frame rate) Here is an example of the application with the live vide feedback Disassembling The barometer is well protected by a piece of foam. No reference written on the 2.4G RF chip installed on top. If you want to extend your range, you can dril a hole into the top canopy structure to install the antenna more vertically. Transmitter The same chassis than the Cheerson CX-70 with super flat sticks anto-centered. Only thumber will really enjoy this type of stick. Anyway they offer relatively good precision in controls. Four bottons are available in the central part: a autotake off, a auto landing, the speed mode selection (beginners/intermediates/expert) and a 360 degrees flips. On the button side, you can find a microUSB port to recharge the 120mAH builtin LiPo. It takes approximatively 1h to charge. It’s possible to install a smartphone up to 6″. Bad news, the CX-0F don’t share the same radio protocol of the CX-70. So it’s one more time a new radio protocol introduced here. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT First contact with the machine with the transmitter only for beginning. After binding completly the machine (by pushing up and down the throttle stick), a short press on the take off button raise the machine approximatively 1m high. you can arm also motors by pushing both sticks in lower outter directions. The mmachine is relatively stable in altituded and I Would says that stabilization is done mainly by the barometer. In practice, if you bring you hands under the machine, you will have to wait to be below 10cm to see the visual positionning system in action. In this case, the machine will shift in a horizontal direction and since there is no GPS, the drift can be important. The machine is nervous with the radio control and offers good rates for indoors applications. The light are not super visible, sometime it’s hard to see the LVC alarm. The machine won’t resist to wind even for a moderate wind. Good news for the radio control range, no problem to exceed 30m and more. Some other negative points can be reported. First as expected, the props tends to be bent or break more easily. Another problem more annoying problem. After a crash it’s often the machine stop to be powered. Whateve your turn on/off the powerswitch. The trick is to plug the machine to its charger… than you can reuse it… very weird if you are in a field. With the application connected, first bad news, you are loosing the control with the radio… Only the controls can be done with the application…. It’s weird because I don’t understand the role of the phone holder on the transmitter since there is no possibility to have both the FPV signal on the smartphone and the control with the radio. The FPV feedback is correct on the app but don’t expect more than 15fps at close range. Versus distance the frame rate will drop even more. The appz GUI is simple and easy to use. The control with the virtual sticks is less easy than with the real transmitter…. The interface offers the possibility to design a trajecory on the screen and the 2D plot will be transform in a 3D path for the quad. You can choose with 5 differents distance radio for path application. In practice it’s working fine. A good point. The more fun feature is the choregraphy mode where you will be able to build sequence of atomistics moves. Around 15 type of basic moves are offered: up and down, turns left right, jumps, flips, etc…. a lot of combinaisons can be created and saved. When executed, a music is playback. This dance mode is fun, probably the most satisfying element for this quadcopter. In term of flight time, you can reach easily 4min30 not so bad for a nano with two camera modules. CONCLUSIONS If you are interested by Dance mode, the cheerson CX-0F is clearly efficient and easy thanks to the appz. In term of WiFi, we could expect more a 720p module but only a 0.3mpx has been introduced here with basic resolution and field of view. The altitulde hold is efficient in practice but can be parasited time to time when the visual positionning system detects proximity with ground. I deeply regret the non-possibility in practice to use it as a FPV machine with both the smartphone and the radio control simultaneously. The price is expensive too … close to 60USD for the RTF!!! It’s a nano !!! close to four time more expensive than first nano’s… PROS + Altitude hold + Nice controls with the transmitter + Complete app + Selfie mode + Choregraphy mode + Stronger 0615 motors + Good flight time (~4min 30) CONS – Transmitter controls can’t be used in the same time that the appz – Video recording only available with appz control only – Builtin LiPo – Visual positionning only efficient for distance below 15cm – Poor VGA 0.3mpx FPV WiFi feedback – Narrow FOV – 16fps for the camera recordings – Need sometime to be plugged in the charger to be turn on again after a crash – Expensive – Yet another Protocol This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. After a calm perdiod… now compact brushless FPV racers are announced. Here is a new brand DUMBO RC with its 62mm (or 60mm not very clear): https://www.banggood.com/DUMBORC-XFX62-62mm-5_8G-Omnibus-F3-OSD-FPV-Racing-Drone-BNF-4-In-1-5A-Blheli_S-ESC-BEC-p-1180073.html The look is very similar to the Eachine Revenger 55… with the FPV camera installed bottom to free the Field of View. For the electronic, we have a tiny omnibus F3 FC with a builtin OSD, a 4-in-1 5A only ESC board but announced to be 3S compatible. The motors, probably smaller than 1104 are 10 000 KV !!!. The FPV rig is based on a 520TVL CMOS FPV camera and a 48CH 25mW 5.8G VTX. The weight without the battery is 53.6g so should be around 80g with the 2s 450mAh LiPo with XT30 connector. No information about the flight time, but I hope it’s better than the poor 2min30 of the revenger 55. INTRODUCTION The IDEAFLY OCTOPUS F90 pro represents the brushless revision of the tinywhoop inspired Octopus F90. With this new model, we have super fast 1104/8500Kv motors, 4-in-1 12A BLheli_S/Dshot 600 ready ESC board, a F3 Omnibus FC with betaOSD integrated and installed on top a 600TVL 25mW 40CH 5.8G AIO FPV camera. All the system is powered via a 400mAh 2S LiPo. If the general look the same with a bulbed octopus head jailing the FPV ring, differences can be noticed for the prop guards system. Let’s discover this new bundle. BOX CONTENT + 1 x IDEAFLY OCTOPUS F90 Pro + 1 x 2S 400mAh LiPo with JST connector + 1 x USB charging cable + 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 8 x Prop screws A basic USB charger. Please prefere a real model to balance perfectly each individual cell. Notice the absence of the instruction manual…. OVERVIEW A 90mm machine is more larger prop guard system than we can find for the brushed machine. Larger doesn’t mean more solid…. First of all, the lower main structure including arms is not carbon based !!!!! It’s a 1.5mm PCB plate where some electronic conpounds are also soldered!!!!! It’s a real massive drawback in the design. Even if they look not super fragile, arm will break after an hard impect on a hard surface !!! -FRONT VIEW The same plastic canopy as for the F90 with the AIO camera installed on top where the 5.8G linear exits from a central hole No frontal light for LOS flight. Prop guard more larger are attached individually on each motors. I raise another concern about them…. They are not durable/strong, especially the central boon. For example, during transportation, two of them broke. -SIDE VIEW On the right side the microUSB port can be found BE AWARE!!!! you must use a USB cable with a thin connector body and insert it through the prop guard. If not inserted in this way, you will probably damage super the microUSB port. It happened to be ….. I had to bend the cable for the fiirst usage until the connector broke definitively …. What a bad location of this port. The safier usage is to remove the prop guard so removing the four M2 hexscrews of the corresponding motor. -REAR VIEW A JST connector for the battery connexion -UPPER VIEW -BOTTOM VIEW Advertised to be waterproof, no real sign of protection on the bottom side except on the two micro click button and on the microUSB port where we can notice the presence of liquid electrical tape. Good news, the four bottom led lights can be programmed via Betaflight. By default, they are programmed to display throttle inputs. The battery fit perfectly the tray without any slidings. On the left side, you can bind the electronic elements for the voltage regulator and a tiny microswitch button to rescue the bootloader. On the right side, the FrSky bind button. Press and hold it while powering the quad to enter into bind mode. Unfortunatly, the FrSky D8 receiver don’t output any RSSI information neither for telemetry or for the OSD…. -WEIGHT 86.8g !!! not so bad for a 2S brushless racer even if it’s not the lightest in his category. Anyway, it’s still acceptable to fly indoors with much more précautions. Motors and pros 1104/8500Kv with no specific mark. They are super fact and probably not 3S compatible even if the 12A ESC are probably. Notice that props are just clipsed on the 1.5mm shaft section of the motor. With the spare props bag, some dedicaced screws can be found if you want to secure more the prop installation. 2035 quadriblade props LiPo A basic 400mAh 2S LiPo with JST connector. The same as for the brushed edition. No specific discharge rate mentioned. As you will see ln the video, the quality of this battery is probablematic. Probably the first item to change for some future upgrades. Camera module The same 600TVL 40CH 25mW AIO module as for the F90 brushed edition. I am delighted by the general performances of this module with vivid colors and relatively good light sensitivity. The Vfreq and Vband selection can be done with a small and thin screwdriver via the left top hole. Short press to cycle within the eight Vfreq of the selected Vband and long press to cycle between the 5 VBand. A priori, the signal is in PAL format. Disassembling Just remove to the six lower screws to open the top canopy element. Be aware, the AIO module is directly soldered on the main board. As you can see, the board and the ESC board installed on top are fully covered by some liquid electrical as waterproof protection. It’s not the case for AIO module …. so full water protection can be guaranted IMHO but it should be ok to fly the F90 pro in rainy conditions. A bad surprize … No buzzer is installed !!!! while for the first F90 there was one … At least you can play with the beacon level strengh with BLheli configurator to boost the ESC sound emitted. A uFL/iPX connector is here to attach the 2.4G antenna. That’s a good point. In general to extend the horizontal range, I advise to drill a small hole on the rear side of the canopy in order to install this antenna more verically. No specific water protection for the AIO module. More the water can enter by the two top holes of the octopus’s head. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS, CONFIGURATION AND TESTING First good suprize, the F3 omnibus is flashed with the current last betaflight version i.e. v3.1.7. More PIDS, flight modes, OSD and lights have been optimized for the F90 Pro. Notice the low rates especially for the pitch and rolls, not directly compatible with acro figure style. Probably they are more adapted for indoors manoeuverers. The FrSky receiver is connected via PPM connexion …. another minor con point when from now we can expect more SBUS connexion. As soon the power the machine, you are also pleased by the good rendition of the FPV cam and of course of the presence of all OSD informations. First take off and the machine start to hover from 35%… a good indication from the potential power…. and clearly as soon as you give a throttle punchout…. the machine receive a kick… it’s really punchy …. but this good news must be minored by the poor performance of the battery. In practice, Under heavy load, the battery voltage frequently drops of more than 1V !!!! and it’s not rare to be above 6v!!! It’s just killing the battery in a fast way. Definitively a LiPo with a strong discharge rate must be used instead. The machine flies superbly and smooth … and I really enjoyed the amount of power. If you plan to use it more outdoors, please increase the super expo rate to perform more safety flips and rolls. As we can expect from the battery behaviour, the flight time don’t exceed 2min30… It’s too short. The FPV signal range is good Inside a radious of 100m. To be honest, I didn’t test the waterproof capacity for the following reason: i) he didn’t rain in my area since two months, ii) I know that the AIO, PDB and the battery are not specifically protected and iii) I find stupid to throw volontary a brushless racer into water… It’s a flying machine, not a sub. In general, into water the battery drains much more faster and you will kill it super fast. Not recommanded. In the other hand, I feed confident that this machine can land on wet grass without problems. CONCLUSIONS I got mixed feelings with this machine. Among positive points, the power iis probably the first. This machine flies great, handle well winds and can be pricize enough for tiny spaces flights. The machine comes completely configured and just required to bind to your FrSky D8 receiver. In another hand, I raise three yellow cards for the non-carbon lower plate, the bad location of the microUSB port and the poor performances of the battery. PROS + F3 Omnibus w/betaflight OSD + Comes with betaflight 3.1.7 + 4-in-1 12A ESC BLheli_S/Dshot 600 ESC + Strong 1104/8500Kv motors + Optimized settings + Powerfull 2S machine + Good AIO FPV camera with vivid colors + Covered mainly with liquid electrical tape => rain resistant + Indoors/Outdoors machine CONS – NO CARBON STRUCTURE => 1.5MM PCB PLATE INSTEAD – Fragile prop guards – Fragile microUSB port (badly located) – No buzzer – FrSky receiver w/o RSSI – Bad quality battery => warm a lot, more than 1v voltage drop under load – 2min30 of flight time This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Tomtop in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thank them for this attitude. You can find it actually for 110USD at https://www.tomtop.com/rc-quadcopter-1192/p-rm8345.html View the full article

I don’t like to promote any specific vendor, but maybe there are some potential good deals to do at BG actually with a special 20% multi-rotor clearance (coupon code WYFC): https://www.banggood.com/collection-2048.html?bid=7409&=utmid=1907&rmmds=detail-middle-details I guess most debates target unpopular models…. So you can check in drone-maniac reviews their respective review and if there is or not a good deal to do. INTRODUCTION The Eachine VR006 represents a super compact and lightweight 3″ FPV goggles. Moreoever, the 40CH 5.8G receiver section integrates a diversity system with a RX sensitivity advertized to be -95dBm. The VR006 is also the cheapest mask from Eachine, announced around 40USD. Let’s discover what can be the first goggles mask for FPV beginners. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Eachine VR006 + 1 x 5.8G halfplanner antenna with RP-SMA connector + 1 x 5.8G RHCP cloverleaf antenna with RP-SMA connector + 1 x AVin cable + 1 x Noze foam + 1 x Fresnel lens clearning kit + 1 x Instruction manual (English) OVERVIEW From the first contact with the Mask, we can understand immediatly that dimensions are much more compact than for larger 5″, 7″ models. Only 11cm for the total length. Will be enough for the focus ? The width is also shorter …. The opening dimensions. As you can understand, it’s clearly nearly impossible to wear the VR006 with correction glasses The noze section is correct. No problem for large nozes. You can add the dedicaced piece of foam for more confort. Just a large Eachine VR006 logo taped on front and no latteral fresnel lens ajustement available :(… A microUSB to recharge the builtin 1S LiPo A confortable facial sponge is pre-installed. On top, only a 2.5mm jack female connector can be found. It’s an AVin port if you want display an AV source. I deeply regret this choice. I would much prefer more an AVout instead or better to have both. As you understand, with the VR006 there is no easy way to plug an DVR at least without internal modding. The right side presents four buttons. To turn on/off the mask, you will need to press and hold the right button at least 4 seconds. You will see the bottom red light flashing serveral time during the boot procedure. When turned on, the same button when press shortly will run the 5.8G band scanning procedure. The strongest signal will be picked up automatically. You can also manually select the Vfreq by the “+” and “-” buttons. In fact all the 40CH frequencies are sorted in an ascent way and not usually divided into Vbands. Weight For both 5.8G antenneas, their respective stem are shorter than usual. No incidence for the range. They are in RP-SMA format and the cloverleaf is a RHCP. Close to 216g in total… so at least 100g lighter than any 5″ models. A good point. Display First of all the 3″ built-in screen offers a max resolution of 500×300.. It means in practice that a native D1 PAL (720×576) or D1 NTSC (720×480) received signal will be partially degraded. In practice, it’s not so serious and the rendition is pretty good finally on this tiny 3″ screen. In the other hand, the display is in 4:3 aspect radio format. Good news, two basic OSD informations are displayed. The builtin 1S battery voltage in the bottom left corner and the current Vfreq expressed in Mhz at bottom right. Three settings can be ajusted via the menu button. Another good news, even with a PAL source with OSD informations located to each four corners, almost no lost informations. Disassembling Four screws to be removed and cut the facial sponge in the middle part to open the mask chassis. A fresnel lens is installed with a moderate magnifying factor IMHO. The 1S LiPo is taped latteraly. It will be easy to replace it since we have a battery connector. To deliver completly the main electronic board, you will need to remove the two buts of each RP-SMA connector Relatively good news, on the top right corner, there are four interesting pads where will be able to install a DVR through The Vbat is a direct connexion to the battery. It means in practice, you will need probably first to install a Voltage Step up from the 1S to the +5V required with most DVR module (Eachine proDVR for example). Not a lot of Step up can do the job, Pololu modules can. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND TESTING Compared to the Eachine EV800D, the display is less sharp but I am positively surprized by the general quality rendition of this 500×300 screen. Not so bad at all. The RX sensitivity is less good too. Much more breakup than the EV800D also announced to be a -95dBm model. What I like is the simplicity of usage. No billions of settings, buttons… The mask is also confortable to wear. In the other hand, with my (old) eyes no more perfect, for me the image is blurred…. and as written previously no possibility to wear directly your glassed with. A mod will be required to ajust your myopia level. CONCLUSIONS A fist entry model very compact and lightweight with a 3″ builtin LCD screen with very acceptable rendition. The RF sensitivity is far to be the best and I deeply regret the non presence of an AVout port and the non-possibility to ajust the fresnel lens distance. Sold aroudn 40USD …. I find this price a bit high versus the price of other 5″ model maybe 10-15USD more expensive only. I am pretty sure the price will drop soon. PROS + Diversity + Correct 3″ LCD screen + Lightweight + Builtin battery + Basic OSD informations + AVin CONS – No AVout – No way to ajust the distance fresnel lens distance – 500×300 resoltion – Not compatible with correction glasses – RF sensitivity not as good as the EV800D – Too expensive for 40USD vs other 5″ models This FPV goggles have been courtesy provided by Banggood in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thank them for this attitude. You can find it actually for 40USD at https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-VR006-VR-006-3-Inch-500300-Display-5_8G-40CH-Mini-FPV-Goggles-Build-in-3_7V-500mAh-Battery-p-1158147.html View the full article

INTRODUCTION Since the introduction of the TinyWhoop, AIO FPV camera meet a huge success mainly due to their ultralight weight where lightest model can be under 3.5g !!!. In general the AIO integrates a CMOS basic FPV camera with a 25mW 5.8G VTX. The Boldclash F-08 add in the system a DVR recording the video signal in higher resolution. Advertiszed resolution promised videos in 720p resolutions !!!! BOX CONTENT + 1 x Boldclash F-08 + 1 x Cable 1.25 miniJST male-male connector + 2 x Spare 5.8G linear antenneas + 1 x Instruction manual (English) OVERVIEW Look like a classic AIO module, but a bit more wider and tall …. The lead connector cable is a 1.25mm but with female connector !!!! It’s clearly oriented to be connected to the Bwhoop B-03 Pro. It’s direct plug and flight. The rear side now integrates an extra chip associated with the DVR Notice the iPX connexion free pads. So if you want, you can solder directly the iPX/uFL male connector for a fast antenna connexion. Actually, the antenna is directly soldered rear The lens thread is in M7 format The lens offers a Field Of View of 120 degrees so not too wide for outdoors or not too narrow for indoors. 23mm width!!!! it’s close to 10mm larger than classic AIO module. It means this module can’t be installed into narrow carbon frames. Weight 5.3g without the extension cable and microSD card. Modding the Bwhoop B-03 pro with the F-08 Row video sample As you can see despite being recorded in 1280×720 resolution, the native resolution is far from this high-res. IMHO, the original resolution is more a 840×480, so slightly higher than D1 PAL format. Notice also than recordings are automatically split into 3min files. UNBOXING & TESTING For the FPV section, the range is good, no problem to exceed 100m despite the linear antenna. The light sensitivity is a bit weak, not ultra bright in shadowed zone. The associated light sensitivity should be around 1 Lux minimum. The good news are concerning the DVR part: No frame rate drop or extra latency can be reported when the recording is turned one. IMHO, it’s because, it’s a pure analog camera format… so time lost to convert from a digital to CVBS format. It’s a far better result versus the Eachine DV03 for example. The sound is not recorded in DVR files and not transmitted in FPV signal as well. Last remark, the module is warming a lot !!!! After 10s, it goes above 45-50 degrees celcius. It’s hot… When the Lipo goes below 3V, the module shut down. CONCLUSIONS Clearly the F-08 represents a first step to a super ligthweight AIO-FPV-HD-DVR combo. The mission is not fullfilled in the sens that recordings are not truly 720p but interpolated from a VGA+ resolution. At least no frame rate drop or extra latency is introduced and IMHO it’s the more important/better technical choice. What we can expect later ? A FPV camera with a better light sensitivity and and obviously higher native resolution. This module is ideal for me for compact microbrushless racers. PROS + 5.6g grams combo + Compact + Good FPV range + No frame rate drop in recordings + No extra latency in recordings + Filter well motor’s interferences + Can work down to ~3V + iPX/uFL connector can be installed CONS – No true 1290×720 native resolution – Warming a lot – Light sensitivity can be better (~1 Lux) – Can’t be installed into small H frame structure – Sound not transmitted/recorded This FPV-cam have been courtesy provided by Boldclash in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thank them for this attitude. You can find it actually for 29USD at http://www.boldclash.com/boldclash-f-08-dvr-5-44g-vtx-camera-fpv-aio-p34.html View the full article

Drone News posted a topic in RC Drone Product News
Here is the new Teeny FC in 16mmx16mm holes version (20mmx20mm): https://www.banggood.com/Teeny1S-F4-Flight-Controller-Built-in-Betaflight-OSD-Teeny1S-4-In-1-6A-BLHeli_S-ESC-p-1176420.html At least two goods news: i) now they integrate a F4 CPU core with SPI connexion with the MPU (faster loop and gyro freqs can be selected) and ii) a betaflight OSD chip is also included. For the ESC part, a 4-in-1 6A BLheli_S/Dshot 600 board with a peak up to 7A… It’s announced to support only 1S … what’s a pity… The BEC only deliver 0.5A…Hope it will be enought for both the receiver and a small 25mW AIO module. With such new board you can expect a lot new super tiny 1S brushless racers with OSD probably with 07xx motors. The total weight should be around 4.5-5g with wires. Pretty impressive. INTRODUCTION In the valse of the TinyWhoop models, in order to gain some thrust while keeping the same dimension, one way of course is to save some weight but an alternative is to install stronger motors. The Boldclash B-03 was the first to install some 0716 motors into a TinyWhoop chassis then the Eachine E011. Boldclash is now introducing the Bwhoop B-03 Pro version. Here bye-bye the altitude hold (really incompatible with FPV applications) and hello to some stronger 0716 motors announced to be 64000RPM. The other element remains the same: a flexible EDF/ducted chassis, 32mm quadriblade props, a propriatery FC. Let’s discover this bundle. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Boldclash Bwhoop B-03 Pro + 1 x Transmitter (using 3xAAA batteries not included) + 1 x 1S 260mAh/35C LiPo with JST-PH connector (2mm of pitch) + 1 x USB charging cable + 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 1 x Screwdriver + 1 x Instruction manual (English/chinese) OVERVIEW The chassis remains the same than the original B-03 with translucide EDF/ducted prop system relatively flexible to absorbe easily crashes. Installed on top, a relatively flat top canopy element latterally clipsed. You can directly tape a AIO FPV camera on it if you want. -FRONT VIEW A good point for LOS flight, front and rear props have different color, gray and black respectively. With the battery installed -SIDE VIEW No visible connectors… just to small clips where you can attach/detach the top canopy structure -UPPER VIEW -BOTTOM VIEW Good news, the SWD port is still here like for the original B-03 machine. Minor change, you don’t need anymore a 4 position JST-SH connector but a 3 ways model right now. You can plug directly a ST-link2 programmer via the GND, SWDIO, SWCLK pins. Motors can be easily replaced since connectors are here. -WEIGHT 30.2g in total… so close to be 30% more heavier than classic TW with 0615 motors. Motors and props 0716 coreless brushed motors boosted to 64000 RPM LiPo A strong 260mAh 1S LiPo 35C!!. Without any FPV camera, you can expect more than 6min of flight time. Disassembling A XN297LBW 2.4G RFchip is installed. Good news, the radio protocol remains the same using the so-called “Bayang” protocol already deviated. There is a port with a 3 pin connector. The two pins from the left can be used to plug directly the Boldclash F-08 new AIO FPV DVR camera. Transmitter 3x AAA bateries are required to feed the transmitter. Ni-Mh AAA batteries are working with the transmitter. A basic compact radio with relatively small sticks but good news, you can have relatively precize controls with this radio to fly in tiny spaces. A small originality introduced with the pro version, if you long press the top right shoulder button, you can turn on the “load” mode. in theory, it should boost motors to carry an extra payload associated for example with an AIO FPV camera. In practice, I didn’t see a big difference with or without this mode. To set the headless reference, push both sticks in lower left (slow red flash). To calibrate gyroscopes, push them in lower right (fast red flash) UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND FPV TESTING As mentioned earlier, it’s direct to plug the the F-08 module via the female 1.25mm microJST connector. The total weight with the camera, the double side tape and microSD card exceed just a bit 34g…. I was worried to take off with the extra load … but in practice no problem. It hovers from 50% of throttle input. When controlled with a DeviationTX compatible radio, it’s super precise … . The machine is not fast … so be aware outdoors especially in windy conditions. The control range is good even with the original radio. You can cross easily all the house and a garden. any drop out reported. With the 260mAh LiPo, I was positively surprize to report 4min of flight time in average with the F-08 AIO FPV DVR camera. The FPV signal is also good in term of range… If you need absoluptly the acro flight mode, you can still flash the SilverXX opensource firmware according to this thread: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2876797-Boldclash-bwhoop-B-03-opensource-firmware CONCLUSIONS The main advantage of the Bwhoop B-03 pro is main probably its capacity to carry easily 5-6 extra grams without sacrifying flight time. The machine is cheap, can be connected with directly with the F-08 camera, DeviationTX ready and can be flashed with an opensource firmware to enjoy acro mode. PROS + 0716/64000 RPM brushed motors + Can carry 6g easily + Plug & play with the Boldclash F-08 AIO FPV-DVR camera + 4min of flight time with the FPV-DVR F-08 camera + DeviationTX compatible (Bayang protocol) + Compatible with the B-03 opensource Firmware “silverxx” + Good radio control range (> 50m) + Bicolors props for LOS flights CONS – No acro mode – No CF/BF compatibility – Not wind resistant – No fast forward This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Boldclash in order to make a fair and not biased review. After the zerotech dobby, the wingsland S6, the sunlytech ALPHAcam, here is probably the smallest and the lightest selfie drone: https://www.banggood.com/AirSelfie-E03-WiFi-FPV-5MP-HD-Camera-Selfie-Drone-With-Power-Bank-Brushless-RC-Quadcopter-p-1175119.htmlThe Airselfie E03 is a 62g brushless selfie drone able to shoot 1080p@30fps video but WITHOUT ELECTRONIC STABILIZATION….???? I really don’t understand designers who hope to obtain acceptable outdoors videos without EIS for a 62g machine !!!. Are they dreaming ???? Ok for indoors, at least there is a visual positionning system … so for indoors should be more less acceptable. Advertized flytime are about 3-4min … so in practice if you have 2min30 it will be already not bad. Definitively …. I don’t understand the introduction of such gadget machine …. Maybe I am wrong…. but I don’t think so. I should name this machine “AirDizzy” E03 because it’s how you will be after watching recorded videos. AirSelfie E03 E03 Size 67.4*94.5*10.6mm Package size 202*103*48cm Quadcopter weight 62g Battery 7.4V 260mAh Charging time 30 mins Flight time 3 ~ 4mins Control distance (App) 20m Flight speed 3 m/s Camera Photo 5MP Video FHD: 1920x1080P 30fps Position Visual positioning system Ultrasonic positioning App Android & IOS Features: – Equipped with 4 micro brushless motors, make your flight more powerful. – WiFi FPV with 5MP HD camera are tuned amazingly to capture stunning pictures and videos from the sky. – Embedded with visual positioning and sonar system, just tossflytm and AirSelfie will hover there waiting for your command, give you more bigger selfie experience. – Palm Throwing(TossFly): Airselfie flat on the palm of your hand, start the motor, throw up the drone gently, and then the drone will self-hovering automatically. – Palm Landing(TouchLand): palm up close to the drone, it will automatically sensor, and landing on the palm. – With portable Power Case/ Power Bank (Optional), you can charge your drone everywhere. INTRODUCTION The Eachine Wizzard X220S represents the new revision of the famous Wizzard X220. Here with the “S” version, a complete upgrade is proposed for both the electronic and structure elements. First of all, we have now a F4 omnibus flight controller board with a builtin betaflight OSD. The F4 processor doubles the CPU clock and increases the number or UART ports. No problem to run everything @8Khz or even @16Khz. No more individual ESC but a 4-in-1 ESC board with strong 30A Bheli_S/Dshot 600 electronic. Motors also have been upgraded to 2206/2300 KV versus 2205 for the former Wizzard. The FPV section is also improved. Now we have a 800 TVL CCD camera with a FOV of 120 degrees. The VTX now offers up to 72CH divided in 12 bands. The ouput power can switched between 25mW, 200mW and 600mW. Finally the general structure is also improved in term of durability with 4mm arm and latteral carbon plates. Let’s discover this new 250mm racer. BOX CONTENT + 1 x Eachine Wizzard X220S + 1 x iRangeX Transmitter (using 4xAA batteries not included) + 1 x 1500 mAh 4S 75C LiPo with XT60 connector + 1 x Charger using balancer plug + 1 x 19V DC powerunit + 16 x Spare props (8 CW, 8 CCW) + 2 x Prop wrench remover tools + 4 x M5 nuts (2 CW, 2 CCW) + 4 x Landing foams + 1 x 5.8G pagoda antenna + 1 x Gopro5/Runcam HD3 camera mount + 5 x Zip ties + 1 x Instruction manual (English) They also offers a RHCP Pagoda 5.8G antenna instead of a classic cloverleaf one. Pagoda antenna in theory rejects in a much efficient way the dual polarization (here LHCP). All the three discs are more or less a bit protected by a three rubber discs. OVERVIEW If the general 250mm general frame remain the same, after the first contact we are first positively surprized by the 4mm section of arms. The lower plate is 2mm while the upper is just 1.5mm But after closer inspection, we can notice than theses structure are not 100% 3K carbon built. In fact, only the external side are carbon based and the inner layer just a fiber glass one …. Even if the durability seems pretty good, maybe a simple 3mm real 3K carbon would have been a better choice … -FRONT VIEW The violin color is the dominant one. The lens is perfectly protected inside the frame. -SIDE VIEW A novoty is the presence of latteral plates. On the left one is visible the connector for ESC control. The right one shows the microUSB port for betaflight connexion and a microSD slot to record blackbox logs for future PIDs optimization for example. -REAR VIEW Two colums of 5 LED lights each are here. They are super bright and programmable through betaflight. Good news, out of the box they are well configured al least to indicate turning and throttle inputs. By default, the 2.4G antenna is installed horizontally parallel of the lower frame. It’s not a perfect solution and it’s adivised to install it more vertically. -UPPER VIEW We can guess the VTX module shielded with a metallic heatsink. Two battery straps and a rubber bands are here to secure the battery installation. Unfortunatly the right strap is also blocking the VTX selection button and the led Display. By consequence, you will need to remove to top cover to set your favorite Vfreq and output power. No real possibility to installer larger prop than 5″. -BOTTOM VIEW Green lights on front and red on rear. Be sure to secure with for example some liquid electrical tape light’s pads especially if you are landing onto wet grass. For the first 500 samples, iRangeX TX-RX solution is provided. On the bottim side, ziptied, the A8S. The bind button is easy to access. The red light indicating the binding status can be guessed on the top right corner. If you keep press the button while powering the quad, you are entering into the binding mode. The light will blink fast. As soon it’s bound the light will be steady solid. Each arm installation is re-enforced by this X-frame. At least, if you break an arm, it will be relatively fast to replace it without removing everything. Another good news, a coaxiable cable is here avoiding a potential direct contact of the VTX’s connector with the ground. -WEIGHT 563g !!! clearly much more heavier than the former edition (483.3g) but in 3S setup. 592g with a mobius mini …. If you plan to carry a gopro5 or the runcam HD3… shifting to a 5S battery represents main probably the best first upgrades to do Motors and props Motors also have been upgraded to some 2206/2300 Kv. They offer pretty good performances and more are 5S compatible. Motors are softmounted …. it will reduce a lot extra vibration and potential drifts in stabilized flight modes 5mm thread Four M2.5 hexscrews not perfectly tight… so be aware to tight them correctly or even better to install some locite to secure completly the thread Like the Eachine Racer 250 Pro, some super pitchy 5″ props are offered and good news four extra complete set are also given. To be more precise they are 5051 !!!! IMHO, the pitch value is too important… the tradeoff extra thrust vs amperage is not super interesting. More if you plan to run the setup in 5S, I advise more some triblades 5030. LiPo Officially a 4S 1500mAh LiPo with XT60 connector and announced to be 75C. In practice, I doubt it’s really a 75C. Under massive load, the minimum voltage can drop considerably (below 14V) …. A potential receiver brownout can happen in such conditions. Camera module Nice new upgrade, a CCD 800TVL camera is now here. Color and light handling should be improved. The lens offers a FOV of 120 degrees and is in M12 format. So it’s super easy to find compatible lens. Good news, you have angle indication latteraly to set the uptilt angle of the FPV camera. Very usefull. The camera runs in PAL system and no switch to turn it into NTSC configuration Here is a raw video sample The FPV signal is degraded by motor’s interferences … What’s a pity, the filter section of the PDB is not enough efficient. Notice the presence of a microphone at least. Video transmitter To access to the VTX setting, you will have first to remove the top canopy plate… It’s a drawback especially in racing conditions. More be vigilant, when you remove the plate to no break the coaxial connexion hot glued on the VTX. The unique butoon is installed on top. The button if shorly pressed can cycle between the eight frequencies inside the current selected band. If you press on it more than 3S, the current band sign will flash then short press on the button to cycle over the 12 bands !!!!. Finally if you very long press on it, you will be able to cycle between the three output power: 25mW (1 bar = default setting), 200mW (2 bars) and 600mW (3 bars). 12 bands are now here !!!! for a total of 72CH !!!! impressive Disassembling The F4 MCU is much larger than a F3 predecessor… Notice the receiver connexion on the top right clearly in SBUS or iBUS configuration. Transmitter A Flysky i6 radio rebranded by iRangeX. This model offers three 2-way switches, one 3-way and two pots. What is very surprizing is the default radio settings. Indeed, only 6CH are active and the two AUX are assigned to the two pot. A pretty bad choice…. As show in the main video, you will have to go into settings to turn on all switches and the 10CH. THen you will be able to assign for example the AUX1 to the 3-way switch and AUX2 to one of the three 2-way. But the more important is not here…. You will have to check in the system=> RF setup about the output settings selected. Please check if iBUS or if SBUS is selected in serial section. You will understand how important is this setting. UNBOXING, ANALYSIS, BINDING, FIXING, CONFIGURATION AND DEMO FLIGHT First good news, Betaflight 3.1.7 is already installed and it represents the last one available currently (BF 3.2 should introduce very soon from now). You can find the default setting here: X220S_dump_BF_3_1_7 Anyway first problem will mine came fast. First the radio is not bound the transmitter …. So you have to press the bind button of the A8S while connecting the XT60 plug. The receiver red light will blink slowly. Release the bind button then press and hold the bind button of the radio while powering the transmitter. The “RX binding” msg should appears but the message freeze the screen. Turn off everything and as soon you will reconnect everything, the red light now will be steady solid. Second major problem, no sticks mouvement in betaflight despite the sucessfull bound…. after a couple of try, I found that the problem came from a buggy SBUS default connexion with the F4 omnibus. You have to turn the radio and the receiver with iBUS settings: 1)On the radio, be sure to select the iBUS output in the RFsettings. 2)On the receiver, press and hold the bind button during 3s (when the binding is done) to turn on the module in iBUS. You should see three fast red flash light. 3) In betaflight configuration panel, select iBUS instead of SBUS. Now you should be able to see stick mouvements in betaflight. You will need to play with subtrim on your radio settings to center CH1, CH2 and CH4 on the 1500 value. For the PIDs, OSD settings, they are identical to the default BF 3.1.7 so no specific optimization have been done. Only the led strip bar has been more or less set correctly. You can improve the situation by turning on the Larson scanner effect for each 10 individual lights. Surprizingly the Vbat monitoring is not turned on also … and the loop frequencies can be easily ajusted to 8Khz even to 16Khz since the gyroscope unit is connected via SPI. First take off with the machine and the despite to be close to 80g more heavier, the machine thanks to the 4S setup is still very powerfull. The super pitchy props are efficient in term of thust but not so much in term of flight time…. Don’t expect more than 5min even less than 4min with aggresive fights. More tha battery present some “worring” voltage drop under load …. As first main upgrade, I advise to install more some 5030 triblades pros as well as a more efficient LiPo battery. As soon as you push the throttle stick some annoying interfecences appears in the FPV signal …. what a pity that filtering stage of the PDV is not efficient. A small filter must be added so. With default betaflight settings, the machine is super easy to fly, no so far to be the best PID settings. The machine flips and rolls superbly…. and no problem for acro style flights. But everything is not perfect. First I had several micro top faisafe cut … from 100-120m especially at the end of my flights …. Clearly this range is not enough for a 250mm racer. Maybe the antenna can be installed in a better way less blocked by the frame structure …. or even better, it’s probably a good idea to install a better FlySky receiver why not with diversity. The second remark concerns the video link… To be honest, I am not impressed by this pagoda antenna at least versus a classif cloverleaf RHCP antenna. CONCLUSIONS On the paper the X220S is probably the best RTF 250mm brushless racer with completly new advanced electronics: F4+OSD, 30A ESC, 2206 motors, strong frame. But in practice, at least for the first 500 pieces with the iRangeX RX/TX solution, you will need to speed some time in configuration to start this racer. I am pretty sure that the next batch with genuine flysky radio elements will be less problematic. It’s also advised i) to install more some 5030 props, ii) to upgrade the battery with a real/true high discharge capacity and iii) eventually to upgrade the radio receiver. In fact, due to this last remarks I advise more to take more the X220S ARF version without transmitter and install your own, for example a FrSky XM+. With this latter choice you should also enjoy RSSI feedbacks. Finally the X220S is a bit heavy and can’t be a super competitive racer at least in 4S system only. Luckely you run it in 5S and it will be a complete story. PROS + Strong 30A BLheli_S/Dshot 600 ESC + Powerful F4 omnibus w/ OSD + 5S compatible + Powerfull 2206/2300 Kv + Strong frame + Programmable rear lights + Good CCD camera with ajustable tilt angle + Last betaflight installed + Easy arm maintenance + Softmounting CONS – iRangeX SBUS connexion buggy – Bad transmitter default settings – Short flight (~4min) – Too pitchy props – Interferences in FPV signal – Not real 3K carbon structure – Micro failsafe top from 100-120m – Battery discharge rate overated – Velcro strap blocking the VTX settings.
